LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH EAST REPORTS

Corwen 2 Rhos Aelwyd 2

Corwen remain without a win in 2023 but are also unbeaten – all four of their league games since the turn of the year have ended in draws.

Their latest point at the expense of fourth-place Rhos Aelwyd on Saturday lifted Lee Pope’s side off the bottom of Ardal North East.

Corwen’s first home game since November 12 saw Rhos make their third trip to the War Memorial Park this season, the previous two meetings seeing the visitors progress in the League Cup and FAW Amateur Trophy.

Chances were few before in the 27th minute Aelwyd’s Thomas Smith ran goalwards before passing the ball onto Ryan Jones, which forced Will Hughes to come running off his line and deny the striker with a great save.

A perfect last-ditch tackle by Matthew Pleavin thwarted Rhos’ hopes of taking the lead before the break.

Early in the second half, Corwen’s Scott Evans played a smart ball forward to Tom Williams, who ran around goalkeeper Daniel Roberts and unleashed a shot at goal, which was headed off the line by Aled Robertson.

The deadlock was finally broken in the home team’s favour in the 58th minute.

A free kick from Henry Evans was curled to Gruff Evans, who played the ball onto Ryan Billington in a crowded box. Billington’s effort found the back of the net via a deflection.

The Corwen lead was short-lived, as four minutes later a Dafydd Robertson strike got the better of keeper Hughes to level the scores.

With 20 minutes to play a foul on Billington led to the referee pointing to the penalty spot. Scott Evans sent Roberts the wrong way to restore the home side’s lead.

Eight minutes remained when Rhos sub Ian Hughes ran down the wing and into the box with the ball, resulting in Will Hughes coming off his line. Ian Hughes was able to get around him and slot into the back of the net for 2-2.

Three minutes later Luke Appleby was bearing down on the Rhos goal and looked as if he was going to give Corwen a possible match-clinching lead, only to be thwarted by a super stop from Roberts.

Bow Street 3 Builth Wells 2

Bow recovered from two-down at half time to snatch all three points at Cae Piod.

Lee James handed Wells a 23rd minute lead before Jamie Evans added a second close to the interval.

Bow’s fightback saw Sion Ewart halve the deficit on 58 minutes before Rhydian Davies squared things from the penalty spot after 72.

Ewart then popped up with the 85th minute decider – his 17th goal of the season.

Caersws 1 Cefn Albion 1

Ryan Kehoe’s 84th minute equaliser rescued a point for Albion in the clash of the top two at the Recreation Ground.

Caersws had led through Craig Harris’ 36th minute strike.

Llanfair United 0 Llanuwchllyn 3

Will Owen put Llanuwchllyn on their way to three points by scoring twice in the opening nine minutes at Mount Field.

John Evans made sure of an away win by adding a third on 68 minutes.

Llangollen Town 0 Rhayader Town 0

Nine-man Llangollen may have been relieved to take a home point against bottom side Rhayader.

The hosts had Jack Goulbourn and Gwilym Keddie both red-carded in the 57th minute, but still managed to salvage a draw.

Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 4 Llandrindod Wells 2

Goals from Daryl Nicholls and Ashley Jones put Llandrindod 2-1 up at half time, Joe Evans replying for the hosts, but it all changed in the second period.

Tomos Evans levelled on 52 minutes, then William France edged Llanrhaeadr 3-2 up after 68 before Wells had Ashley Jones red-carded with 76 on the clock, soon followed by a second yellow for away manager Gareth Jones.

William Roberts Morris notched a fourth for the hosts to round off an incident-packed game.

Penycae 1 Dolgellau AA 2

Three points for Dolgellau at The Riverside, their second half goals delivered by Wil Gruffydd and David Edwards, with Eric Durnell replying in between for the home team.
