Husband and wife team step down from village club
Two key figures in the running of CPD Llangoed stepped down this week.
Dewi Williams and his wife Rhiannon Williams have bowed out from their roles as first team manager and club secretary respectively with immediate effect.
The couple have been involved with the Anglesey club, who play in the tier 5 North Wales Coast West Division One, for eight years.
A CPD Llangoed spokesman said: “I speak on behalf of the whole club when I say thank you both for all your hard work over the years.
“Not many people who aren’t involved in running grassroots sports clubs can appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into ensuring that the team can play 90 minutes at the weekend.
“Dewi and Rhiannon have been involved with the club for many years and will be sorely missed by everyone.
“Def Parry has kindly agreed to step in as interim first team manager and I am sure that the senior players will give him any support that he needs. Sbo (Owen Williams) is still in post as club chairman and Rich (Gregson) will be filling the secretary position for the time being and doing the Comet scores etc.
“We will be advertising for help in various capacities over the next few days but in the meantime I would like to wish Dewi and Rhiannon all the best and we hope to see you back at the club in the future.”
Popular local farmer Dewi said: “Eight years of good times and bad 🤣, but wouldn’t change them for the world. Thank you to everyone who helped along the way from the players to the parents and from league officials to match officials and to all the clubs, players and staff involved in North Wales football.
“We have made some friends for life through this game, but it’s more than just a game – it’s a whole community. Thank you everyone for all the kind words.” #upthepuffins
North Wales Coast FA councillor and former Bethesda Athletic and Beaumaris Town manager Chris O’Neal said: “Absolute rocks of this club, shame to see them leave. I’m sure given some time they will be back in one capacity or another even if it’s just as true supporters. Well done and thank you Dewi & Rhiannon for all your time in the lovely game of Welsh football.”
