Flint Mountain boss Shannon wins Manager of the Month for November and December – and starts January well

Ardal North West – January 11, 2023
Being named league Manager of the Month for November and December certainly did not bring the mythical curse effect upon Flint Mountain’s Aden Shannon this week.
Shannon’s side began January with a 1-1 home draw against fellow title hopefuls CPD Y Rhyl 1879 and followed that up with a hard-fought 2-1 success over Saltney Town on Wednesday evening.
It was no surprise at all to see the former Cefn Druids and Connah’s Quay Nomads player land the Ardal North West MoM award for the previous two months as Mountain produced a magic six wins from seven matches across November and December.
They knocked Rhyl out of the League Cup 2-1 at the Essity Stadium on November 9, then triumphed 1-0 at Llanrwst United and whipped Rhostyllen 5-0 at home in the league on November 19 and 26 respectively.
Mountain kicked off December with a 6-0 League Cup caning of Brickfield Rangers at home, then pulled off a fantastic 4-1 result at Llay Welfare in the ANW before suffering a surprise 2-1 home defeat against Llangefni Town on December 17.
It proved a mere blip as Shannon’s warriors rounded off 2022 with a great 3-1 home victory against Denbigh Town.
Saturday’s 1-1 split with Rhyl 1879 was followed by Wednesday’s narrow beating of Saltney.
After a goalless first half, Gary Roberts set up Ieuan Hewitt to edge Mountain in front after 49 minutes.
Saltney were a determined outfit as always and were level on 58 when Sam Reynolds found the net.
The winning goal would not arrive until nine minutes from time, Roberts again with the assist as Calyn Spencer scored his third goal of the season – and first in the league.
Flint Mountain are home again on Saturday to Nantlle Vale, a team they beat 2-0 away in August.
