Llandudno refuse to travel to Cardiff for Welsh Cup quarter final over weather concerns

Llandudno’s FAW Women’s Cup quarter-final at Cardiff Metropolitan today has been postponed.

The North Wales club refused to travel to South Wales due to concern over the freezing weather and the prospect of treacherous roads.

“The safety of the players is paramount and always will be,” said a club spokesperson.

With this tie now being postponed twice, under FAW rules the third attempt to play game should switch the venue to Llandudno – something Cardiff Met were no doubt desperate to avoid.

Llandudno have been very unlucky in draws so far this season.

They had to visit Swansea City – whom they had never beaten before – in the Genero Adran Trophy last 16, but pulled off a fantastic 2-1 victory.

In the quarter-finals, Tudno will face another arduous journey to Genero Adran Premier leaders Cardiff City.

So a trip to Met in the Welsh Cup completes a ‘big three’ treble of away ties for the Genero Adran North reigning champions.

They are up for any challenge – but not at the expense of player safety.
