James Kirby is undoubtedly one of the best strikers to emerge in the Cymru North in recent seasons.

Since joining Colwyn Bay in August 2021, he has netted a magnificent 31 goals in 30 league appearances for the Seagulls.

His latest heroics occurred on Friday night when he notched a hat-trick in the Bay’s 4-0 home win over Holyhead Hotspur.

That result extended Steve Evans’ side’s unbeaten league record to 12 games at the top of the Cymru North table.

A cracking home crowd of 720 were there to see the hosts establish a three-point lead at the summit.

Kirby opened the scoring in the first 15 minutes with a neat turn and finish from Tom Creamer’s cross and Bay should really have had the game won by half-time.

Matty Hill headed just over the bar from a great run and cross by Alex Downes, Holyhead keeper Alex Lynch made a double save to deny Hill and then Creamer, who also saw a shot hit the post with Stef Edwards putting the rebound over the bar.

Downes shot wide after a good link-up with Creamer, who also put Edwards in on goal only for him to fire straight at the keeper.

Lynch also made a good save at the feet of Hill to keep the score to 1-0 at the break – and in fact it needed a good stop from Cameron Darling in the Bay goal to prevent Holyhead making it 1-1.

The visitors, however, were blown away in the second half, with Kirby converting a penalty on 52 minutes and Edwards firing home from 10 yards to make it 3-0 after 63.

Lynch made a fine save from a Downes shot and two more good stops to thwart Kirby.

But Bay’s top scorer was not to be denied and he headed his third goal of the night on 90 minutes to complete an emphatic win for the hosts.
