Dream trip to World Cup land brings joy for Jody Cain after 12 months of injury hell
Just over a year ago young footballer Jody Cain was left devastated when she suffered a broken leg.
The 20-year-old was playing for CPDM Y Felinheli – then known as Bethel – in October 2021 when her season was brought to an abrupt end by a bad tackle against Llandudno.
The road to recovery has been lengthy and painful, but there is a truly happy ending.
This week Jody is on the journey of a lifetime in Qatar coaching football and other sports to the nation’s youngsters in a venture organised by Urdd Gobaith Cymru.
As part of their World Cup celebrations, the Urdd is launching the Welsh Youth Ambassador Qatar Programme. This week, staff and youth ambassadors will run sport and arts workshops in schools in Doha and Dubai.
Through the workshops, the Urdd aim to introduce our language, culture and country to a new audience.
Wales begin their World Cup campaign in Qatar with a Group B clash against the USA next Monday, November 21. Rob Page’s squad then take on Iran on November 25 and England on November 29.
Jody is one of five sporting Cain children, Lara, Ryan, Jack and Kyla the others. Parents Patrick and Bethan take a major interest in the adventures of all five – and sometimes join in!
A former champion disco dancer, Jody has represented Bethel/Felinheli for many years.
She recently completed her first 90 minutes in a senior game since returning from injury and has also been turning out for the under-19’s.
