It was a cool and blustery morning at the Conwy Parkrun, yet it still attracted 200 people of mixed ages and abilities, and from all parts of the UK for another exciting 5k community event.

Visiting athlete Robin Stacey (York Acorn RC) was the first man home overall with a new PB on his course debut to win his MV30 age cat in just 17 minutes and 23 seconds.

He was followed by Road Runner Mark Jessett who won his MV35 cat in 18.03, with local youngster Alfie Shiland (Colwyn Bay AC) 3rd, and once again impressing in 18.23.

The Ladies race was won by another travelling athlete, Lou Osborn (Ambleside AC), who was 10th overall in 20.35, but Road Running duo Kay Hatton and Cheryl Frost took all the plaudits with Kay the 2nd female runner with a great new PB of 22.58, and colleague Cheryl 3rd in 23.11.

Jessett led the North Wales Road Runners home and the club entered 11 seniors and one junior and collected nine podium places including six age category wins.

Steve Mason finished about a minute behind Mark in 6th place overall, but he too won his MV45 age cat in 19.06, with Stuart Culverhouse 13th and 3rd in his MV50 cat in 21.00. John Dalzell finished 17th overall in 21.32, and Gethin Wyn Jones, despite running with a sore leg, still finished strong in 26th place in 22.30.

Hatton and Frost celebrated their call-up for the North Wales cross-country team at the forthcoming Inter-Counties match by having another great cat and mouse tussle.

Kay claimed a deserved new PB in 28th place overall, and the 2nd lady finisher, but won her FV55 in 22.58. Cheryl also ran hard, and was the 3rd female runner, 30th overall and 2nd FV55 in 23.11.

Veteran Rob Fryer maintained his form to win his MV65 age cat in 55th place overall in 25.39, with Dave Spofforth and his son Ben running the course together again and shared the same time of 26.47, with Ben also winning his JM10-11 age cat.

John O’Shea finished 2nd in his MV65 cat in 99th place in 27.57, and master vet Don Hale returned from injury with strappings, opted for a steady recovery trot in 109th place, but won his MV70 age cat in 28.48.

Praise was given to the race director and all the volunteers and marshals in addition to the regular MC and event organiser John Hatton from NWRRC for all their hard work.
