Saturday’s Dragon Signs FAW Trophy third round ties produced some sensational upsets.

Tier 5 club Trearddur Bay made it to the last 32 at the expense of a higher level team – and there were also ‘giant-killings’ from Bethesda Athletic, Aberffraw, Mochdre Sports, Llanberis and Nefyn United.

LOOK AT THESE RESULTS!

Aberffraw 3 Rhayader Town 1 – ZZAP!
Bethesda Athletic 1 Bow Street 1 (Bethesda won 6-5 on pens) – POW!
Llanberis 3 Caersws 2 – BIFF!
Mochdre Sports 2 Llanfair United 2 (Mochdre won 4-2 on pens) – OOF!
CPD Nefyn United 4 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 2 – BOOM!
Trearddur Bay 2 Llannefydd 0 – SMASH!

TREARDDUR BAY defeated tier 4 high-flyers Llannefydd 2-0 against the odds, both goals coming from a familiar source – the sensational Asa Thomas.

Thomas’ 21st and 22nd goals of the season came after 27 and 60 minutes respectively, Myles Jones and Ry Lees with the assists.

BETHESDA ATHLETIC were overjoyed after seeing off tier 3 Bow Street, recent Welsh Cup conquerors of Bangor 1876.

After a 1-1 draw at Treborth, Pesda of the tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division triumphed 6-5 on penalties.

Gari Wyn Owen gave Mark Hughes’ side an eighth-minute lead before Ifan Burrell levelled on 72. Bow had Joshua Ferreira dismissed for a second yellow after 63 minutes.

The penalties contest saw Joe Todd, Scott Hughes, Daniel Hughes, Dean Redmond, Gari Wyn Owen and Cian Williams put away the vital kicks which sent the underdogs through.

Kings of the upset, ABERFFRAW of tier 4, turned on the magic again to send Rhayader Town of the third-tier Ardal North West crashing out 3-1.

Mark Jones, Iolo Jones and Callum Edwards, with an injury-time clincher, secured progression for the Anglesey heroes.

Fletcher Chandler had brought it back to 2-1 before Grant Stamp missed a penalty for the Powys visitors.

MOCHDRE SPORTS really smashed the odds by knocking out Ardal North East title contenders Llanfair United on penalties at Swan Road.

The tier 4 hosts from the North Wales Coast East Premier held their opponents to 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes,

Harvey Holmes struck twice for Mochdre in the first half, Nyasha Mwamuka and Jake Mann hitting back to make it all-square at the break.

No goals in the second half so it was down to pens, Gareth Jones, Jack Jeffers, Kai Davies and Niall Owen converting for the hosts to seal them a 4-2 success, Llanfair missing their opening two.

LLANBERIS did North Wales massively proud by twice coming from behind to sink hot favourites Caersws 3-2 at Ffordd Padarn.

The tier 3 Ardal North East visitors, who were in the Cymru Premier not so long ago, led through goals from Norton Collins and Neil Mitchell, but Ifan Mansoor, Nidian Huws and 91st minute match-winner Cian Fleming delivered a famous result for the Darans.

The outcome was even more remarkable as the hosts had missed a late penalty through Dion Owen, only to grab that decider soon after

A magnificent result for the tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier outsiders.

Finally, NEFYN UNITED were celebrating after a memorable 4-2 win over CPD Y Rhyl 1879 at Cae’r Delyn.

Tier 4 knocked out tier 3 in this one. Rhyl were missing several regulars, but still took a decent squad to the Llyn Peninsula.

Nefyn won it through goals from Rhys Williams, Josh Piper, sub Jack Jones and an OG from Elliott Evans.

Leon Atkins and Jonny Taylor replied for the visitors, but it was not enough.
