NWCFA JUNIOR CUP LAST 16 REPORTS – OCTOBER 22

Abergele 4 Trearddur Bay 3

Dom Holland’s dramatic 90th minute winner put Abergele into the last eight of the Junior Cup at the expense of a very good Trearddur Bay side at Dinorben Field.

The hosts had Cain Folly to thank for keeping the scores level with a great save from a direct free kick in the second minute.

After nine minutes Gele took the lead when Ben Pamment crossed the ball from out wide to his younger brother Ryan Pamment, who acrobatically volleyed from 18 yards out beyond keeper Konner Druce’s reach.

Trearddur Bay equalised on 17 minutes thanks to a Justin Williams goal and were ahead after 33, Coby Doutch getting himself on the scoresheet.

A through ball from Lewis Moroney was latched onto by Holland, who lobbed the keeper to make it all-square, but Abergele found themselves 3-2 down at the break as Asa Thomas headed home his 20th goal of the season from a Myles Jones corner.

The second half saw a much improved Abergele performance and the introduction of Jack Lloyd-Williams and James Lloyd changed the tie, but the hosts could not find the equaliser they were searching for.

With the game slipping away from Gele, veteran Tommy Lloyd was introduced and he headed a Greg Hilditch throw into the top corner with his first touch in the 86th minute.

Lloyd’s goal gave the hosts a second wind and inspired the comeback that was completed in the 90th minute through Holland’s decider.

Bow 3 CPD Caer Clwyd 0

New signing Tom Weir proved what an asset he will be to Bow by putting his team on the way to the Junior Cup quarters with the opening goal on 18 minutes.

Weir, who joined from Cymru North club Gresford Athletic last week, applied a great left-footed finish to make it 1-0.

Bow were at it from the get go and could easily have been three-up at the break only for some great saves from Clwyd keeper John Wood.

The second half saw Bow continue at the same pace to go three-nil up and see the game out. Kelvin Berks deservedly made the scoresheet twice.

Shane Thomas and Dan Porter were outstanding for the home side, who produced some great football in this all North Wales Coast East Division One tie.

Holyhead Town 5 Penrhyn Bay 1

Two goals apiece from Rob Thomas and Charlie Diamond helped guide the Harbourmen to an emphatic victory at Millbank.

Diamond put Town in front on 21 minutes and it was not long before Jayden Owen doubled the lead.

Thomas and Diamond added one apiece to make it four goals in 11 minutes from Craig Brodie’s home side.

After the break Thomas made it 5-0 before Matthew Roberts pulled one back for Penrhyn.

Callum Moore missed a late penalty for Holyhead.

Cemaes Bay 2 CPD Y Glannau 1

Holders Cemaes successfully continued their quest to make it back-to-back Junior Cup triumphs with a hard-fought win over North Wales Coast East Division One visitors Y Glannau.

Taylor Jones got the Anglesey hosts off to an ideal start with a fourth-minute goal.

Keenan Downey made it 2-0 in the 69th minute and the only reward the St Asaph side gained from their long journey was a 92nd minute penalty from Harrison Bellis.

Arriva 4 Rhyl Dragons 3

Three red cards were shown in the final minute of a seven-goal thriller which saw the Bangor hosts progress.

Mark Williams handed Arriva a 23rd minute lead and Luke Snape doubled the margin on 36 before Danny Williams pulled one back after 40.

Robin Roberts put the Busmen 3-1 up early in the second half, but Hari Griffiths hit back for the away side before a Steve Taylor penalty on 72 minutes made it 3-3.

It was anyone’s tie now, but Snape struck again quickly for the Arriva to put them in the ascendancy.

Dragons pushed hard for the equaliser but it was not to be and they had both Mason Kenny and Griffiths sent off on 89, Joshua Jones also receiving his marching orders for the hosts.

Betws-Y-Coed 1 Bethesda Rovers 5

Kieron Bullock (2), Lewis Hall, Sion Bullock and a Callum Robinson own goal made sure Rovers cruised into the quarter-finals.

CPD Cefni 2 Llanfairpwll 5

Jay Finter struck twice as Llanfairpwll became one of three Anglesey clubs to make the last eight.

Rees Roberts, John Jones and Aled Davies were also on the mark for Gwyndaf’s Pritchard’s side.

Hugh Jones and Phillip Davies replied for Cefni, who had Warren Fletcher sent off on 76 minutes with the score at 4-1.

Rhos United 1 Llandudno Amateurs 3

The Amateurs deservedly advanced to the next stage, Joe Jones scoring on 18 and 53 minutes before Chris Smyth added a third after 79.

Rhos were level at half time thanks to a Phemmy Allison goal, but the Amateurs were worthy winners on the day.
