Nick Flack and Jonathan Phillips star in crucial win for Chirk’s cricketers

Chirk 1st XI (20) 182-10 Alberbury 1st XI (4) 61-10

Nick Flack scored 75 and took four wickets as Chirk breathed new life back into their promotion quest.

Luke Gardner’s side now need to win their final game of the season at Cound this Saturday and hope other results go their way if they are to clinch a top two finish.

It is still to be officially confirmed by the Shropshire County Cricket League that two are going up.

Taking on Alberbury at Holyhead Road, a Chirk team which has suffered some recent blips were put into bat and were all out for 182.

Flack (75) and Jonathan Phillips (41) put on 111 for the third wicket and were the main contributors to the innings by some distance.

James Hearle picked up 5-16 off 5.4 overs for the visitors.

Flack and Phillips then performed second starring roles with the ball as Alberbury were skittled out for just 61.

Phillips claimed a brilliant 4-3 off 3.4 overs, while Flack took 4-27 and skipper Gardner 2-23.

Points: 20-4 to Chirk.

Corvedale 1st XI (20) 186-1 Chirk 2nd XI (4) 183-3

In a 30 overs per side contest, bottom side Chirk seconds set a cracking score, but were unable to stop their hosts passing the winning post.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the visitors rattled up 183-3, skipper Rob Williams making 68 and David Lunt 64, opener Gary Bailey adding 22.

In reply, Corvedale raced to 186-1 in 22.3 overs, Tayyab Raza Muhammad thrashing 128 off 64 balls, striking 14 fours and seven sixes.
