Chirk players observed a minute’s silence before the game in tribute to former captain Stephen Conner, who passed away recently.

The 2nd XI delivered a strong performance befitting their much-missed friend as they earned a draw at Whittington.

The Shropshire hosts won the toss and batted, posting 213-4 off 40 overs, Craig Roberts top-scoring with 58.

In reply, Chirk batted out their 40 overs and finished on a very commendable 195-5, skipper Dale Randall leading the way with 67.

Opener Barry Wilding made 50 and David Lunt 26, Whittington claimed the better of the points 14-10.
