After losing 4-0 to Bethesda in the league on Monday afternoon, Mynydd Llandegai travelled down the hill to Parc Meurig and made a much sterner battle of Friday’s FAW Trophy tussle.
Ultimately, however, it was Pesda who ended up victors again in a nine-goal thriller.
The visitors dominated early on and took the lead in the 15th minute when Jamie Whitmore netted from close range after Bethesda goalkeeper David Clarke failed to claim a cross from the left.
However, it was 1-0 for little over a minute. Following a Bethesda corner, the ball was played back into the box and reached Dean Redmond who scored with a powerful shot.
Ten minutes before the break, Llandegai went 2-1 up. The ball was played towards Whitmore in a central position, and he turned his marker before firing a low shot into the net from 20 yards.
Shortly after Mynydd went close to extending their advantage, before Bethesda won a penalty after Ben Parker flattened the onrushing Kyle Hartleb as he broke into the box.
Redmond made no mistake from the spot.
Half-time: 2-2
Athletic took the lead for the first time after 55 minutes. After a break down the left, the ball was.played into the box where Benn Lundstram beat his marker before scoring with a calm finish.

Shortly after going behind, Mynydd’s Wyn Morris shot from 25 yards, but Clarke turned the ball away for a corner.
After 64 minutes, Bethesda extended their lead. After Parker had saved well from a free-kick the ball broke to Tomos Hughes at the back post. Despite the tight angle, the substitute scored with a powerful low shot.
Mynydd Llandegai continued to press and reduced the deficit two minutes later when David Hayes netted from close range after Clarke parried a free-kick.
Inside the last 10 minutes, Mynydd continued to press and Kieran Freeman-Jones fired in a shot from long range that Clarke did well to turn over.
From the resultant corner, the away side managed to level when Osian Tudur netted from close range.
In a topsy-turvy match, Bethesda regained the lead inside the final two minutes. Parker did well to save Redmond’s free-kick but was unable to keep out the rebound from Benn Lundstram.
In injury time, Mynydd’s chances of getting back on terms were reduced when Osian Jones was sent off after picking up a second yellow card following a rash challenge.
