MATCH OF THE DAY

Rhyl All Stars 3 Penrhyn Bay 3

Owen Butters struck twice for All Stars

Tomos Bradfield’s 89th minute net-finder rescued a point for the Bay.

Frazer Holness put Penrhyn 2-0 ahead with goals on 17 and 30 minutes, both coming via long balls forward, but Owen Butters pulled one back just before the turnaround.

All Stars then stepped it up, Butters and Owen Hughes putting them 3-2 in front at the 73-minute mark, Lewis Evans involved in both goals

However, that late Bradfield reply, the scorer left free at the back post following a corner, ensured a split verdict.

All Stars manager Robert Cunnah said: “Today we are definitely left feeling hard done by with the draw. Again we have let ourselves down, not dealing with balls in and around our penalty area for the second game.

“If we deal with those balls, we very likely come away with the 3 points and a clean sheet. I’m definitely not taking away from Bay, as they took the chances that came to them, and that’s an absolute credit to them. The first two goals, were from balls that weren’t dealt with properly, and in all credit to the forward he’s put them into the back of the net.

“The frustrating part of today is that we easily saw 80% of the possession. We also created some excellent chances, but just not getting enough of them on target.

“We played some really excellent football as well, moving the ball across the pitch effortlessly at times. We played out from the back really well, moved the ball up the pitch and made good use of our wide men, through spreading the play. On the ball today was the best I’ve seen from us so far this season, which makes the result even harder to swallow.”
