North Wales Coast East League reports – August 13

Premier Division

Prestatyn Sports 3 Glan Conwy 0

Tom Wickerson struck twice as Prestatyn Sports maintained their perfect start to the league campaign with a third straight win.

Visitors Glan Conwy had the first big chance when they won a 29th minute penalty, but Oliver Carey’s kick was brilliantly saved by stand-in keeper Gareth Walsh, who usually operates at centre-back.

Sports took a 32nd minute lead when a free kick deflected off the Glan defensive wall to Kris Owens, who finished well to the keeper’s left from inside the 18-yard box.

On 36 minutes a long delivery was lofted over the Glan back-line and Wickerson neatly dinked the ball beyond young keeper Adam Hughes.

The second half was much more comfortable for Sports, but they needed that third goal to make sure of the points and it came in the 78th minute.

Great work from Cory Owen in midfield saw the ball played out wide and fed into Wickerson, who found the bottom corner.

The organisational skills of Sam Brewerton and Jared Hughes at the back for Sports were outstanding.

Cory Owen and Antonio Jacovelli dazzled in midfield and Walsh in goal was excellent.

Bro Cernyw 2 Blaenau Amateurs 0

Deian Hughes and Lewis Brownson bagged the goals which earned Bro their first win of the season.

Llanfairfechan Town 1 Mochdre Sports 2

Ellis Jones handed Llanfairfechan a second-minute lead, but Josh Grimshaw and Jordan Phillips replied before the break to win it for Mochdre.

Llannefydd 5 Kinmel Bay 1

Ciran Jones was a four-goal hero for Llannefydd in a convincing triumph over Kinmel Bay.

Substitute Tomos Edwards added another for Gwyndaf Pritchard’s side, while Bay’s reply came via Connor Morris, who was later shown a second yellow card, the same fate which befell team-mate Ethan Evans.

Llansannan 4 Llandudno Junction 3

Ifan Jones (2), Robin Jones and Gruff Roberts notched the winning side’s goals, Jack Williams (2) and Jack Nettleton running the Railwaymen close.

Meliden 2 Llandyrnog United 1

Connor Beattie and Nathaniel Hulme pocketed the goals which sealed three points for Meliden, Tomos Cumming the Dyrny marksman.

Rhuddlan Town 1 Cerrigydrudion 0

Jordan Bellham struck a 48th minute match-winner for Rhuddlan.

St Asaph City 3 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 0

Ryan Potts and Kieran Garnett-Hughes (2) ensured the spoils went the way of the Saints.

Division One

Abergele 3 Rhos United 1

Played three, won three for current Division One champions Abergele.

The hosts were fast out of the blocks, grabbing a second-minute lead when Frankie Hennigan raced onto a Connah Atkinson ball and expertly finished with his right foot.

In the 15th minute, Atkinson made it two, Greg Hilditch with the assist.

Gele had chances to extend the lead but could not make them count.

Rhos began to get a foothold in the game after the interval and grabbed a well deserved reply through Jordan Dixon, but the result was put beyond doubt when Dom Holland scored a near post header after James Lloyd nodded a deep corner back across goal.

Betws y Coed 2 Y Glannau 7

Harrison Bellis struck a fantastic five times in Y Glannau’s high-scoring victory at Betws.

Jake Reddaway and Joey Fontana added the rest, Tyler Griffiths (pen) and Rhidian Williams responding.

Bow 4 Llysfaen 2

Two wins and a draw so far for second-placed new side Bow, who were good value for a 4-2 success over a determined Llysfaen.

Bow’s Barry Roche commented: “We changed our squad today a little bit, but they all pulled together and saw the result out again.

Bow FC maintained their winning form

“The back four was solid and John Atherton was a menace once more up front. Our subs made a big impact with Kelvin Berks coming on and taking his chance well. Brandon Luffman was man of the match and he deserved it.”

Bow scorers were: Danny Porter 16 minutes, Brandon Luffman 20, Kelvin Berks 53 and Richard Hill 80. Tom Collier and Ben Rawlinson hit back for the visitors.

Henllan 3 Rhyl All Stars 1

Shane Roberts handed the All Stars an early lead, but Henllan rallied to win it with goals from Sam Davies, Daniel Lewis and Alex Thomas.

All Stars manager Robert Cunnah gave his thoughts on the game, saying: “A fourth minute free kick from 20 yards out deflected off the wall into the back of the net and gave us the early lead.

“After the goal we kept up a good standard for the next 10 minutes.

“Unfortunately, after landing heavily on the pitch, David McHugh suffered a very nasty injury to his wrist. We are wishing him a speedy recovery.

“After that we lost our way completely and Henllan began to take control of the game, and apply pressure to our back line. They started limiting our chances and made it difficult for us to play out.

“We managed to hold out till half time as Henllan despite the pressure had very limited chances on goal.”

The manager added: “After a stern team talk we came out the blocks strong for the second half, creating some good chances and moving the ball round the pitch much better.

“But in the 50th minute Henllan grabbed their equaliser after a ball down the right side was not dealt with and a lobbed cross crept into the top corner.

“After that, all credit to Henllan they began to take control of the game again and outplay us, we struggled to hold onto the ball long enough.

“We made some changes and it opened the game back up.

“We switched off and looked tired after the 70th minute and Henllan punished us dearly – two goals in as many minutes made it 3-1.

“We weren’t good enough today, plain and simple. That’s not me taking away from Henllan because they deserve so much credit for today, they were disciplined and strong. The injury to David’s wrist really threw the lads off, but that’s still no excuse. We are so much better than today.”

NFA 8 Penrhyn Bay Dragons 0

A strong display from the home side, whose goals were shared by Luke Bowers (2), Matty M Evans (3), Will Davidson (2) and Niall McGuinness.
