JD Welsh Cup first qualifying round

Bangor 1876 9 Llanberis 2

The big guns were certainly firing for 1876 as a nine-goal blitz sent them into the second qualifying round.
Corrig McGonigle picked up where he left off last season – 34 goals in 15 games – by netting four times at Treborth this evening.
New signing Liam Morris added a hat-trick, while the ever-popular double act, Les Davies and Sion Edwards, also made the scoresheet.
Bangor 1876 were 9-0 up before Llanberis managed two consolation replies through Kurt Hellfeld and Matthew Edwards.

Llay Welfare 5 Lex XI 0

Tom Wells, Luke Taylor, Lewis Bickerton-Cole, Matthew Worrall and substitute Jonathan Collo shared the goals as Llay coasted into the next round.
The Welfare were three-up at half time and neveer showed any signs of relaxing their grip on the tie.

Rhuddlan Town 2 Kinmel Bay 4

A six-goal thriller at Pengwern College saw Kinmel Bay emerge victorious in this local derby.
Ben Jacobson gave Rhuddlan and their new manager John ‘Barney’ Barnes the ideal start by scoring in the ninth minute, but Ryan Hulse levelled from the penalty spot after 19 and Ryan Roberts edged the visitors ahead moments later.
Matthew Rees missed a penalty for the hosts, ensuring Bay led 2-1 at half time.
In the second half substitute Ian Dunn nabbed a third for Kinmel before Dave Sharkey gave Town hope with a 71st minute spot-kick.
However, Declan Bellamy’s goal for the Bay on 82 minutes settled it in favour of Alex Craig, Leon Field and Andy Thomas’ side.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 1 Abergele 0

Kieran Ellis scored the only goal in the 77th minute to seal 1879 victory in this hard-fought local derby.
Although there are two levels between the sides, Abergele more than held their own in a great battle.
The tie was settled 13 minutes from time when great work from Alex Jones set up the prolific Ellis to score.
Progression for Rhyl softened the blow earlier in the day of the announcement of top-scorer last season, Carl Lamb’s, retirement.

JD Cymru North

Buckley Town 1 Chirk AAA 0

Asa Hamilton notched the only goal on the hour as Buckley started their league campaign in winning form at the expense of newly-promoted Chirk AAA.

Cefn Druids 1 Prestatyn Town 2

Druids’ return to the Cymru North proved an unhappy one as they went down at home to new-look Prestatyn.
Kyle Parle broke the deadlock on 25 minutes and Tom Hilditch made sure of the points by making it 2-0 after 70.

Ben Maher volleyed home a late reply for the Ancients, but it was too little, too late.

Llandudno 2 Colwyn Bay 2

Honours even in the big local derby at Maesdu Park which was watched by a magnificent crowd of 1,585.
Steff Edwards rescued a dramatic point for the Bay with a screamer deep into added time.
After a goalless first half, Matty Hill gave the visitors a 52nd minute lead, but Danny Brookwell soon levelled and then Shaun Cavanagh looked to have won it for Tudno with a fantastic free kick.
Bay pushed hard for an equaliser, with home keeper Ryan Roberts producing a couple of great stops, but he could not keep out Edwards’ point-saver.

A Spartans team packed with young talent ran riot at Acton with the net-finding shared between Adrian Davies (3), Patrick Davy, Hari Jones, Declan Jones, Federico Hadley and an Andrew Rutter own goal.
Lewis Edwards and Mark Williams replied for Acton.
