The Welsh Cricket Cup is 50 years old – are we due another North Wales winner?

Colwyn Bay were the last North Wales Welsh Cricket Cup winners in 2015

This year sees the Welsh Cricket Cup celebrate its 50th anniversary – and another success for North Wales might just be a little overdue,

Our last triumph came in 2015 when Colwyn Bay celebrated a sixth win for the north in the national competition, which started in 1972.

Over 49 years just four North Wales clubs have lifted the trophy – Brymbo (3 times), Northop Hall, Llandudno and the Bay, who defeated Ammanford in the final seven years ago.

In 2022, we have two teams into the national last eight – Colwyn Bay and Northop, who won their respective North Zone finals.

How amazing would it be if there was a northern name etched on the cup in its 50th year.

This is the 2022 quarter-final draw

CRICKET WELSH CUP NATIONAL QUARTER-FINALS (July 17)

Colwyn Bay v Llandysul or Pontarddulais (playing July 10)
Newport v Northop
Port Talbot Town v Cardiff
Swansea v Cowbridge

Since the cup started in 1972, South West Wales clubs have won it the most times (17 – 34%), followed by South Central and South East (both 13 times – 26%) and the North bringing up the rear with six wins (12%).
