Abergele Football Club desperately need new ground to progress to higher standard

Ambitious Abergele FC are desperate to find a new home to improve their prospects of progressing as a club.

And the chief of the North Wales Coast Football Association is fully behind them.

The club is calling on the local community to pull together and help create a brighter future for football in the town.

Abergele were crowned tier 5 North Wales Coast League East Division One champions last season, but their application for promotion to the Premier Division was rejected as their current ground does not meet the necessary criteria.

The facilities at Dinorben Field do not equate to tier 4 standards required to play at the next level.

Therefore Gele are stuck where they are unless they can find a more suitable home, despite having a group of players more than capable of advancement.

In a statement on social media, the club said: “Our facilities don’t meet tier 4 criteria, we are unable to develop our current home pitch and exhausted every avenue in trying to secure a ground that met the standards.

“We have a group of committed local lads playing for their hometown club as well as running it and the goal is to not only be successful as a football team but to help the local community secure the facilities they deserve.

“Hopefully with the help of the people of Abergele, our sponsors and the local authorities, together we can address the issue of the sub-standard sports facilities Abergele as a town has and create something not only we as a club can use, but also schools, local youth teams and other sports clubs in Gele.”

North Wales Coast FA president Bryan Roberts supports Abergele’s campaign for better sports facilities in the town.

He said: “It is an absolute disgrace that the town of Abergele does not fully support the football fraternity of their home town. Here we have a superb team run in a professional manner with some dedicated local players.

“The club are in desperate need to further their ambitions by gaining promotion but their only barrier is their ground criteria does not comply with their promotion status.

“I plead as President of the North Wales Coast Football Association to the councils involved in their area to pull their fingers out and help this club.”
