Bodedern withdraw from tomorrow’s NWCFA Intermediate Cup semi-final at Bangor 1876

Bodedern celebrate winning the North Wales Coast West Premier Division title earlier this month. The Anglesey side have withdrawn from tomorrow’s Intermediate Cup semi-final due to injuries

Bodedern Athletic have withdrawn from tomorrow’s scheduled NWCFA Intermediate Challenge Cup semi-final at Bangor 1876 due to a large number of injuries affecting the squad.

Athletic have conceded the tie, meaning 1876 automatically go forward to meet CPD Y Rhyl 1879 in the re-arranged final in July.

Boded manager Ricky Williams confirmed a squad already weakened through injuries ahead of last night’s 3-0 Premier Division Cup Final defeat to 1876 had picked up further knocks in that game.

Williams said the Anglesey club would be unable to field a full squad for tomorrow’s semi, set to take place at Treborth.

NWCFA president Bryan Roberts confirmed Bodedern had conceded the tie.

Athletic won the Tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division title this season with a stunning record of 26 wins, a draw and just one defeat – in their final match against 1876. They will be promoted to Tier 3 next season, securing an FAW licence after work carried out at their Cae Ty Cristion ground.

Bangor 1876 finished runners-up to Boded in the league, but won their first-ever knockout competition when they picked up the Premier Division Cup at Cemaes Bay on Thursday, courtesy of goals from Tom Clarke, Corrig McGonigle and an own goal.

The Intermediate Challenge Cup final was set for Nantlle Vale on Tuesday, May 31, but following a risk assessment carried out by the NWCFA, the Maes Dulyn ground was considered unsuitable to cater for the large crowd the showpiece game would have inevitably attracted.

It was therefore decided to hold the final over until July 16 or 23 at either Colwyn Bay or Conwy Borough, just before the start of the 2022-23 season.

The match will double up as a fundraiser for local causes.
