LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION REPORTS – MAY 21

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Colwyn Bay (9) 225-6 dec Sefton Park (5) 150-9

Bay came within a wicket of what would have been a deserved win over their Liverpool visitors on Saturday.

Inserted by the opposition, the Penrhyn Avenue hosts chalked up 225-6 declared off 53.2 overs, Adam Campion top-scoring with 73 off just 58 balls, including 11 fours, skipper George Johansen adding 51, Sion Morris 35 and Zack Gidlow 31. Johansen and Campion put on 95 for the fourth wicket.

Ayan Madhu claimed 3-37 for Sefton Park.

In reply, the Merseysiders were 136-9, but last pair Leo Spilsbury and James Dixon managed to cling on, the visitors ending on 150-9 to salvage a losing draw.

Veteran spinner Paul Jenkins collected an excellent 4-33 off 18 overs for the hosts, Campion bagging 2-28 and Ryan Holtby 2-52.

Northop Hall (2) 137-10 Rainford (20) 138-1

Skipper Will Higginson’s dominant 74 could not save Northop Hall from a heavy home loss to Rainford.

The visitors completed a quick North Wales double, having beaten Colwyn Bay the weekend before.

Invited to bat, the Hall crashed to 41-4 before Higginson was joined by 15-year-old Joshua Leach. The pair formed a stand of 63 before young Leach went for 20.

Higginson was last out with the home total on an inadequate-looking 137, John Dotters snapping up 4-45 and Liam Gaskell 3-42 for the Merseysiders.

Rainford then coasted to 138-1 in 34.2 overs, Paul Farrar 58 and Matthew Bailey 52 not out.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Ormskirk 2nd XI (25) 178-5 dec Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (5) 145-10

Despite a defiant 55 from Arthur Jones, Bay fell short in the runs department at Ormskirk.

The home side opted for first knock and posted 178-5 declared, Joshua Thompson a vital 58 not out down the order. Shay Williams 2-24 and Arthur Jones 2-53 for the visitors.

Jones’ half-ton was the best feature of the Bay reply, which ended on 145 all out, Martyn Farrell 4-35 and Bradley Bellamy 3-15 for the 25-5 points winners.

2ND XI FIRST DIVISION

Leigh 2nd XI (25) 124-2 Northop Hall 2nd XI (3) 122-10

Electing to bat, the Hall could only manage 122 all out at Leigh, Jack Smallwood best with 27, while Nathan Graham destroyed the visitors with 7-33.

The hosts then breezed to 124-2 in just 15.1 overs, Graham completing a mighty fine day with 68 not out off 34 balls including 13 fours and a six.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

St Helens Town 2nd XI (22) 109-10 Prestatyn 2nd XI (6) 88-10

Steven Edwards notched 5-30 and Navneet Kaimal 3-43 as Prestatyn seconds dismissed Saints for just 109.

However, the North Wales visitors fell short of the winning line, being bowled out for 88, Dave Gregson 5-24 for the home team.
