Late call-up Matty Ryan joins fellow St Asaph player Jason Foulkes in Wales T20 squad

Matty Ryan joins club-mate Jason Foulkes in the Wales T20 squad today

St Asaph opening batsman Matty Ryan has received a late call-up to the senior Wales T20 squad for today’s games against Buckinghamshire

He joins fellow Saint, Jason Foulkes, in being the only North Walians in the Welsh line-up.

Ryan, 26, has scored in excess of 5,000 runs for St Asaph’s first team, who he first represented in 2009, having made his club debut in 2007.

He has notched four centuries for the firsts, including a best of 143 against Llanrwst in 2017.

Matty chalked up a magnificent 799 league runs last year in St Asaph’s first-ever North Wales Premier Division title win.

He is also a very useful bowler, with more than 100 first team wickets on his CV, including 30 last season which included a career best 5-17.

He is one of three Ryan brothers who plays for Saints’ first team, alongside skipper Will and Danny. Their dad Gareth is also an ex-Wales international.

The Ryans had a good day yesterday with champions Asaph winning at Northop.

Wales have endured a mixed T20 competition, showing signs of real promise against Bedfordshire and Oxfordshire, but were comfortably second best last Sunday against a resurgent Berkshire on a damp day at Newport.

Buckinghamshire currently sit bottom of the NCCA Group 4 with Wales in 4th, looking to finish as high as 3rd in the group if results go their way.

Play starts from 11am at High Wycombe.
