One of the most astonishing senior cricket feats to happen in North Wales in many a year occurred at Pant Newydd in Halkyn on Saturday.
The North Wales League Division Four match saw Llandudno 2nd XI opening pair Matthew Lambe and Elliott Hughes put on a stand of 400 plus.
At the end of 40 overs, Tudno, who had been put into bat (!) has amassed a mammoth 406-0.
Lambe was 200 not out and Hughes unbeaten on 156.
Seven Halkyn bowlers featured and one went for 12-an-over.
On their social media, Llandudno CC reported it is the biggest ever partnership in their club’s long and distinguished history.
When Halkyn 2nds batted, they didn’t do too bad themselves, making 236-1 with Shaun Gibson 121 not out, Aaron Thomas the only batsman dismissed for 53 (Lambe the bowler) and Muhummad Bajwa finished 45 no.
Llandudno won by 170 runs and 15-0 on points.
Just four runs separated these teams at the end of a cracking contest in Bersham.
The hosts, inserted by the opposition, made 156-8, Sujeesh Vazhadan hitting 45, while Anthony Morris took 2-13 off nine and Jeremy Wilks 2-22 for the away side.
Marchwiel and Wrexham went mighty close, but were limited to 152-9 at the end of 40 overs, Matthew Lewis shining brightest with 58, Gavin Manuel pocketing 3-11 and Santhu Kj 3-14 for Bersham. Points: 11-4.
Owen Ford grabbed 3-9 off six overs as visitors Carmel were dismissed for just 45 after opting to bat, extras the highest score with 18.
