Miserable start to season for Chirk’s cricketers

Andrew Swarbrick picked up two wickets for Chirk 1sts in a home loss to Wellington 2nds

CHIRK 1ST XI (6) 136-9 WELLINGTON 2ND XI (24) 198-10

Not the best of starts to the season for Chirk as they went down by 62 runs at Holyhead Road.

After winning the toss, the hosts put Wellington into bat and the Shropshire visitors posted a total of 198 all out, having been 104-6, Alex Brasenell best with 56.

Mark Shaw claimed 4-52, Jonathan Phillips 3-48 and Andrew Swarbrick 2-64.

Chirk were limited to 136-9 in reply, Shaw completing a good day with 47, Harjot Singh 4-32 and Martin Weill 4-34 for the travellers, who took the points 24-6.

DIVISION SIX

BEACON 2ND XI (24) 85-0 CHIRK 2ND XI (1) 84-9

After choosing to bat, Chirk seconds could only muster 84-9 off their 40 overs, then hosts Beacon coasted to 85 without loss in 19.2 for a 24-1 verdict.
