Chirk Cricket Club hope a quality new signing will provide a welcome boost to their Shropshire County League Division One campaign.
The Colliers have announced Matty Lawrenson has joined them from Marchwiel and Wrexham.
Lawrenson is a talented bowling all-rounder who will bring energy, control and valuable experience to the 1st XI squad at Holyhead Road.
The new man has taken 42 league wickets for Marchwiel and Wrexham 1st XI in North Wales Division Two over the past three seasons and scored 416 runs.
In his career as a whole, he has claimed over 300 victims with the ball and notched more than 4,600 league runs, having also played for Shropshire-based clubs Norton-in-Hales and Ellesmere, as well as Shropshire County League side Overton-on-Dee. where he recorded five centuries.
He has grabbed seven five-wicket hauls, including a best of 5-14 for Marchwiel and Wrexham.
Commenting on his new team-mate, Chirk captain Liam Walker said: “Matty’s someone we’ve had our eye on for a while. He’s a proven performer with the ball and will also bring depth to our middle order. He always competes hard, and I’m really looking forward to having him in our side and seeing the impact he can make both on the pitch and around the club.”
Chirk 1st XI lost by 111 runs at Wellington 2nd XI in Division One of the Shropshire County League on Saturday.
Put into bat, the hosts were all out for 199, the visitors’ Nitish Sharma taking 4-42, Mark Shaw 2-32 and skipper Walker 2-48, James Collings hitting a vital 86 for the Shropshire outfit.
Chirk were bowled out for just 88 in reply, Gareth Partridge 24, Lewis Gough 5-19 for the home side.
In Division Seven, Chirk 2nd XI lost by 83 runs at home to Albrighton seconds.
The visitors set 200-6 off 40 overs, George Collins 3-30 for the North Wales side, who could only manage 117 all out in response, extras the top score on 33.
