Cefn Albion kept their remote title hopes alive with an emphatic win over Corwen at Clywedog Park on Wednesday night.

The visitors fielded a very youthful side, with the majority of the team aged under 21 and many being graduates from the club’s under-16’s.

Early on the ball was played across to Kian Harrison, who took a touch before unleashing an angled shot at the Albion goal, which zipped wide of the far post.

The deadlock was broken in the 18th minute when Corwen failed to clear a ball that Michael Latham had looped into their box, allowing Conner Kendrick to fire into the roof of the net.

Eight minutes later Latham blasted a penalty beyond goalkeeper Nathan Roberts.

At the half-hour mark the home side were three goals to the good, as Ryan Kershaw played the ball forward to Alex Williams, who netted with a great strike.

Corwen were determined to find a way back into the game and in the 36th minute Tomos Hughes played a great ball to Owen Cordiner, who slotted past goalkeeper Joshua Roberts.

Visiting hopes of a result were made more difficult in first half stoppage time, as Alex Williams found the back of the net.

The deficit was four goals eight minutes into the second half when Joshua Sumner fed Andrew Watkin, who fired a brilliant shot into the goal via the inside of the post.

Just before the hour Tomos Hughes was able to get space in the Cefn box, which he utilised to blast a shot which brought a tremendous diving save out of Joshua Roberts.

Corwen went close a few times before with three minutes to play Harrison picked out Cordiner, who drilled in his second.
