Which senior North Wales women’s football team has scored the most goals in competitive matches this season?
You might not be surprised to see inaugural Genero Adran North champions Llandudno at the top of the tree with a whopping 135 goals from just 21 league and cup games.
That’s a remarkable average 5.87 goals-per-match from Sarah Colville’s side, who could still land a trophy treble this term, as they are also into the final of the NWCFA Cup and the NEWFA Challenge Cup semis.
However, and I make this point with the greatest respect, when you assess any Adran North team’s goal output this season, you must take into account bottom side Denbigh Town had a very tough campaign, conceding 138 times in 14 fixtures.
Llandudno played Denbigh FIVE times and amassed a total of 60 GOALS against them – 27 in league games and 33 in cups – without conceding once.
Take away those goals and Tudno’s tally is far more modest.
In fact, of the top four in the Adran North, Llandudno had the lowest number of league goals.
Having said that, Wrexham, Bethel and Connah’s Quay also feasted on Denbigh at various times, albeit not as prolifically as the champions as they did not face the basement team on as many occasions.
For the record – goals scored versus Denbigh in 2021-22: Bethel 51, Wrexham 32, Connah’s Quay 30.
LEAGUE GOALS ONLY
When it comes to just league goals, CPD Y Rhyl 1879 are number one across the north.
The North Wales League leaders have netted 84 times in 14 matches, putting them one ahead of Connah’s Quay Nomads, who scored most goals in the Adran North with 83.
Nomads’ league campaign is now complete. whereas 1879 still have four matches to go, so will likely end up with considerably more than the 84 they have now.
However, this is a timely opportunity to compare stats as Rhyl and Nomads have at present taken part in the same number of matches.
In the conceding of league goals, Rhyl 1879 again emerge the best with a miserly 11 let in over 14 matches.
So well done to keepers Lauren Jones and Meg Robinson (now at Connah’s Quay), plus defenders like Saskia Wynne Thomas, Rosie O’Brien, Sophie Haywood, Steph Farley and all others who have played at the back (and indeed in other positions but assisting the defensive effort) for running a tight ship.
In the Adran North, Llandudno’s defence was the meanest with just 18 conceded in 14 matches.
Another tremendous feat, especially considering their season-long keeper, veteran Sara Williams, does not normally play in that position.
