NFA made to work hard for win by Holywell

Georgia Spibey scored again for NFA – her fifth goal of the season

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE REPORT – MARCH 20, 2022

NFA REPORT…………

NFA 4 (Webster 14 & 86, Spibey 30, Hansen 84)
Holywell 0

Although NFA took the win and remained just two points behind leaders CPD Y Rhyl 1879, many of the plaudits were due to Holywell for a fantastic resilient performance against a team which beat them 13-0 not long ago.

The home side from Rhyl had several players not available due to injury and illness. while the visitors were without skipper Sarah Massey.

Andy Lloyd’s side could not get into their usual passing game but still created plenty of chances.

In the 14th minute Amy Webster opened the scoring with a quality shot that beat keeper Steph Doyle.

Holywell regrouped and had chances of their own. But for some excellent goalkeeping by Yasmin Mills and great defending, the Wellwomen would have found the net.

NFA rallied and on the half-hour a cross from Emily Jones was neatly finished by Georgia Spibey.

Half time came and the score remained 2-0 to NFA.

The hosts still struggled for fluency again in the second half and Holywell kept pressing and creating openings of their own.

Chance after chance went begging and it was not until the 84th minute that NFA finally managed to add to their score.

Substitute Rebekah Hansen latched onto a pass from Jones and finished the move to make it 3-0.

Two minutes later, Hansen turned provider and set Webster up for her second of the game and 18th of the season.

Winning manager Lloyd said: “A really good game of football played in the right spirit. Thanks to Holywell for coming down and thanks to their physio for helping with a couple of our injured players.”

Player of the match for NFA was Charliie Badham, while acting skipper Ruby McGilloway took the honour for the visitors.
