Menai Bridge Tigers attracted a club record crowd to Friday’s Sean Brett tribute match at Treborth.

Almost 500 attended the North Wales Coast West Premier Division clash, in which the Bridge beat Aberffraw 4-3.

Sean managed Menai Bridge Tigers for nine-and-a-half seasons between 2009-10 and 2018-19, winning nine trophies in the process. The 50-year-old tragically lost his life on February 26.

Today the Tigers commented: “The official attendance on Friday night was 458 – a modern club record – and the true number may be closer to 500. That figure is a fitting tribute to Sean – that so many people came to show their support is a testament to how popular and respected he was locally.

“Thank you to everyone who attended and donated on the night. Gate receipts, sale of refreshments, and other donations raised an incredible £3,876.22.

“This would not have been possible without all our volunteers on the night, and special thanks to our junior secretary Sian Robinson for her assistance.

“We have so many to thank; our opponents Clwb Pel-Droed Aberffraw Football Club for their assistance during the week; Chwaraeon Bangor Sport for donating the pitch hire fee, and to the staff for their assistance on the night.

“Our neighbours CPD Bangor 1876 FC for lending cafe equipment, and to so many of their supporters for attending; Robin Williams for his touching address to the crowd before kick-off; the match referee for donating his match fee and his assistants who also donated.

“Also the Premier Group North Wales drivers who donated their tips; patrons of Sean’s local The Bulkeley Arms for their donations and supporting our Lotto; Waitrose & Partners Menai Bridge, who donated a gift card to Sean’s family.

“We would also like to thank the local media for all their coverage and promotion of the event, and for their tributes to Sean.

“The profits from our Three Letter Lotto reached over £320, and have been added to the donations.

“The JustGiving page stands at over £4,200 which brings the current total raised to over £8,400. That is an absolutely amazing total and shows how brilliant our community is in coming together at such a difficult time.”
