Action-packed Sunday of North Wales women’s football on the cards

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL PREVIEWS – SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 27

GENERO ADRAN NORTH (2 pm)

Airbus UK Broughton v CPD Pwllheli

Pwllheli will target a league double over Airbus when they travel to Broughton this Sunday.

Last September, the Llŷn Peninsula ladies won the reverse fixtures at the Rec 2-1, Magi Hughes netting both for the hosts and Tegan Hewitt replying for the visitors.

Connah’s Quay Nomads v Bethel

This will be the first league meeting between these sides in the 2021-22 season, although they have clashed twice in cup ties.

Back on October 10, Nomads won 3-0 at the San Seilo in the Adran Trophy, but seven days later Bethel were victorious in a thrilling Welsh Cup tie on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

Depending on results elsewhere, the Quay could return to top spot if they beat their visitors, who will remain fourth whatever the scoreline on Deeside.

Wrexham v Llanfair United

Leaders Wrexham have made a fantastic start to 2022, winning all three league tests against Airbus (4-0), Bethel (6-2) and Connah’s Quay Nomads (3-2).

The red and whites also have a 100 percent record of six straight home league wins and will complete the set if they defeat Llanfair, who are a much improved team with three victories in their last four outings.

North Wales’ leading markswoman, Wrexham’s Rosie Hughes, will be aiming to add to a fantastic return of 33 goals in all competitions in just 16 appearances.

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE (2 pm unless stated)

Amlwch Town v Llanystumdwy (12.30 pm)

In what will be just their second game of 2022, Amlwch can move to within a point of leaders CPD Y Rhyl 1879 if they see off visitors Llanystumdwy.

The Anglesey side edged a narrow 2-1 victory at Llan earlier this season.

Town have lost just once in 10 league tussles this term.

Llanystumdwy won at Trearddur Bay in their last game and can be tricky opponents on their day.

CPDM Bangor 1876 v Trearddur Bay

Early pace-setters 1876 have played just once in 2022 so far – a 5-3 home defeat to leaders Rhyl 1879 in a game where the Bangor outfit performed really well.

Aron Griffiths’ side can expect a good battle against Trearddur Bay, whom they had to work hard to beat 2-0 on Anglesey back in October.

1876 will remain in the top four regardless of Sunday’s results.

Llangefni Town v NFA

After eight straight wins, NFA came unstuck 1-0 at Rhyl 1879 in their last encounter.

The Rhyl-based NFA side will look to bounce back at Llangefni, whom they whipped 7-0 at home earlier in the campaign.

Newcomers Llangefni have compiled a superb total of 13 points so far and are sure to give it everything at Cae Bob Parry.

In their last home fixture, Cefni defeated Llanystumdwy 3-1 with top-scorer Jen Cox on target twice.

Northop Hall v Holywell

All aboard for a local derby which saw the Hall win 5-2 at Holywell in the reverse fixture at Carmel Cricket Club four months ago.

Northop Hall have made steady progress this term, currently lying fifth, while the Wellwomen are one off the bottom still seeking a first-ever win.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 P Welshpool Town P

Match postponed as Welshpool are involved in the NEWFA Cup.

NORTH EAST WALES FA WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP (2 pm)

Llandudno v Welshpool Town

Genero Adran North favourites Llandudno will need to be wary of an in-form Welshpool team who are unbeaten in 2022 with three wins and a draw in the North Wales League.

Tudno have so much goal power, especially with top-scorer Ella Jones due for a full return after injury, it is hard to bet against them at Maesdu Park.

An improving Welshpool are on the up, however, and will have gained a lot of confidence from their displays in recent weeks.
