North Wales Road Runners Club’s Elizabeth Driscoll celebrated a magnificent sporting achievement last week by winning the 1st Lady title in two very different activities on the Falkland Islands.

The popular all-round athlete, who later collected a cash prize and a bottle of champagne for her efforts, first completed a “Dri-Tri,” event, which involved a 3k row, 15k watt bike, and a 5k treadmill, in one hour and three minutes.

And then on Sunday, Elizabeth ran in the Cape Pembroke Half Marathon, completing the challenging course in just one hour 48 minutes to win the 1st Lady finisher title again, and to confirm a unique double.

These latest prestigious awards add to her recent hat-trick of successes in Falkland Islands parkruns, where she also finished as the 1st female runner.

After the race, Elizabeth said: “A busy few days of sport this week beginning with the “Dri-Tri” in 1.03, and I am really happy with that and yesterday I took part in the most southerly half marathon in the world, the Cape Pembroke, in Stanley.

“Haven’t been doing as much running as I had hoped so wasn’t sure how I would do but very pleased to finish in 1.48 and absolutely chuffed to bits to be 1st lady!

“Fab race in pretty good conditions for here with a bit of off-road along a sandy track and I am now a bottle of bubbly and £100 richer. It’s the marathon in 4 weeks so think I might just do a bit of training.”
