As we wrote a profile article for Mari Gibbard’s birthday last year, we now adjust to Plan B to celebrate her latest special day.
Instead of the traditional “write-up”, we list 10 Fabulous Facts about the CPD Merched Bethel attacking player, who has netted 13 goals so far this season.
Born on February 23, 1997, Mari shares a birthday with Line of Duty actress Kelly Macdonald, former Aston Villa and England star Gareth Barry, plus Casemiro of Brazil and Real Madrid.
In May 2010, Mari scored a hat-trick as the girls of Ysgol Brynrefail, Llanrug, beat Cwmtawe 11-1 in the Welsh Schools Under-13 Cup Final at Park Hall, home of The New Saints.
A one-sided final also saw Mari’s team-mates Lois Regan and Alaw Prys Hughes score three goals apiece, with Catrin Gruffydd and Ella Owen adding the others.
Gareth Davies coached these unstoppable girls.
Mari played for the Bangor University side which won the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) League in 2015-16.
Her first team as a youngster was Llewod Llanrug.
Mari played in the Welsh Premier Women’s League for Llandudno in 2017-18 and 2018-19. In the latter season, she was top scorer with 15 goals in all competitions. No-one will ever forget THOSE goals she scored at Maesdu Park against Cardiff City – two strikes from the Gods!
Mari is an international having represented Wales Universities in football.

She once won a national Cwis Pop on Radio Cymru with Ysgol Brynrefail
Mari was selected for the All-Time North Wales Women’s Football Dream XI featured on Grassroots North Wales last year.
In October 2018, Mari scored six goals for Llandudno in a Welsh Cup tie against Corwen.
