New Bangor 1876 signing Corrig McGonigle believes he has joined a club “destined to rise up the leagues”.

The tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division side announced the capture of the Anglesey-based goal machine earlier today.

McGonigle has already amassed more than 300 senior goals in North Wales football at the age of just 24.

He leaves tier 2 Cymru North outfit Conwy Borough to join fan-owned 1876, who are in just their second season – and first full one – as a club.

McGonigle said: “I am very happy to be joining a club which are heading in the right direction and putting the building blocks in place to progress up through the leagues.

“It’s a club I’ve always kept a close eye on and now the opportunity arose to sign for them it was something I couldn’t turn down.

“I’m sure I’m going to find my enjoyment for the game again and looking forward to Friday night and getting going.”

Bangor 1876 manager Michael Johnston said: “Corrig is a player who will be a great addition to our squad and hopefully improve on his excellent record.

“His record is immense, both when it comes to scoring goals and creating them. As soon as we heard he was available, Mel Jones (general manager) was straight onto it.”

Corrig was a prolific marksman in junior football before netting 33 times in his first season with Llangoed in the Anglesey League in 2013/14.

He went on to become one of the finest hitmen to appear in the former tier 3 Welsh Alliance League, where he banged in 145 goals over four seasons with Pentraeth, Glantraeth and Conwy Borough.

He won the Division One title with Glantraeth in 2016/17 and was part of the Boro side in 2017/18 which scooped the treble of league championship, FAW Trophy and Cookson Cup.

Corrig, from Llansadwrn, near Menai Bridge, remained a consistent net-finder in the Cymru North, netting 23 and 25 in his first two seasons with Conwy.

He departs Y Morfa with 10 goals in the current campaign.

Corrig has also twice won the Bob Brodie Trophy, which annually recognises the top goalscorer in Anglesey senior football.

He was also a past member of the Bangor City Development side crowned Welsh Premier League National Champions.

Corrig netted his 300th career goal in a 3-3 draw with Buckley Town back in October.
