Looking back on why CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 were named Grassroots North Wales Team of the Season

CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 is the Grassroots North Wales Team of the 2025-26 Season.
An amazing treble, semi-finalists in the Welsh Cup, a backbreaking schedule of 51 games negotiated with a mere two losses endured and more than 200 goals scored in all competitions.
After the previous season’s demoralising relegation from the Cymru North, the Citizens battled back – and how!
Under their new name Clwb Pêl-Droed Bangor City 1876, the club won the Tier 3 Ardal North West League by a whopping 14 points, losing just once in 30 matches.
That February 3-2 reverse at CPD Llannefydd was followed by 11 straight wins which secured the title with a couple of games to spare.
While certainly the dominant force in the league, City were given a good battle until near the end by second-place Porthmadog, who went on to win the play-off and seal a Cymru North place themselves this season.

Bangor won 27 out of 30 league matches, amassing a huge 123 goals and setting a new points record for the Ardal Northern.
While Corrig McGonigle banged in 29 league goals, he was not quite the leading marksman in Ardal North West. That honour went to Osian Hughes of Bethesda Athletic with 33.
City lifted the biggest cup in their short history to date by winning the FAW Amateur Trophy, the Holy Grail fir Tier 3 and below.
In winning seven ties to claim the Trophy, Michael Johnston’s men accumulated 43 goals and let in just four.
Bangor made history in the Welsh Cup as they became only the second Tier 3 team to make the national knockout semi-finals in the competition’s 149-year existence.
The blues eliminated four Tier 2 sides on their way to the last four, including the eventual South champions and a promoted North team, then met Cymru Premier hopefuls Flint Town United.
This was the one day in the season where City just weren’t themselves. They never recovered from a bad start and lost 5-1, thus missing out on a final date with Caernarfon Town, who won the cup for the first time in their history.
To make it a treble, Bangor also collected the Ardal North League Cup, where they were given a tremendous battle in the final by Llanuwchllyn, but won the day 2-1 thanks to a late Cai Powell Roberts decider.
Four competitions were entered – three won and made semi-finals of the other, the biggest of all.
An unforgettable season for Bangor City 1876 and their fans. What more great adventures await in the Cymru North!
