Steve “The Beast” Lewis set to make Prestatyn Town debut in crucial relegation clash

Admission is free to tomorrow’s Cymru North relegation battle between Prestatyn Town and Llangefni Town at Bastion Gardens, where revered striker Steve Lewis is expected to debut for the home side.

The Seasiders hope to make it third time lucky after narrow losses at Conwy Borough (1-2) and Penrhyncoch (0-1) in their last two games under Andrew Ruscoe and John Barnes.

Prestatyn won 6-0 at Cefni earlier in the season, but the Anglesey side have improved of late, drawing 0-0 at high-flyers Colwyn Bay recently.

The hosts have had a tough week. After losing to Penrhyncoch, they were widely mocked for a pre-match video they put out on social media of the players and management singing famous song Country Road.

Ruscoe admits the club has some making up to do.

He said: “Let’s face it, we created lots of divided opinions online due to our Country Road singing clip, which went viral.

“What it did do is get people talking about Prestatyn Town. Apparently the pubs, shops and cafes around the town have been singing the tune in good spirits but tomorrow is about knuckling down and getting those important 3 points to help us stay up.

“All the singing and dancing is now over, because tomorrow we welcome former Welsh Premier League club Llangefni Town to Bastion Gardens. The game is kindly sponsored by Grassroots North Wales website.

“It’s going to be a very tough affair as Llangefni have strengthened up in recent weeks, but we will have our lads firing on all cylinders once 2.30 pm arrives.

“Tomorrow’s side is still undecided but it will feature the debut of Ste “The Beast” Lewis, who is raring to go. Beast has worked so hard all month, working on improving his fitness because he truly wants to help Prestatyn Town stay up. I’ve always admired Ste but literally the respect I have for him in recent weeks has gone up massively.

“The lad is a hero and having him playing for us is massive. He’s also very inspiring off the pitch and his knowledge of the game helps the younger talent within the group.”

Returning to the squad will be goalkeeper Richard “The Cat” Cowderoy, who was impressive during his debut at Conwy, producing a fantastic penalty save, even though he was later sent off.

Also likely to start is captain Kyle Parle, who has been inspirational for the club this season, especially since the new management team has come in.

Ruscoe added: “I am so proud of Kyle because when everyone was up and leaving he actually stood up and in his own words said “I’m the captain now”. He really is a true footballing character.

“There’s a massive issue with loyalty in modern day society, especially in football, where players will leave clubs for £5 a game and let’s face it clubs don’t help themselves either but Kyle has showed true loyalty to our club and he is rewarding us with fantastic performances which clearly shows how talented he is.

“Tomorrow is a huge game for our club and we hope the community of Prestatyn come out in force and get behind the lad so that we can hopefully kickstart our season and boost our fight to stay in the division.”
