A well-deserved first league win of the season for Wanderers in what was a 12-goal thriller.

Early pressure from Wanderers led to nothing and the Alex took the lead after five minutes through Sam Porter.

The equaliser came when a long throw from David Coleman resulted in an Alex own goal.

The hosts edged back in front minutes later with a well taken goal from Porter.

Wanderers then hit back with six consecutive goals.

Coleman’s missile throw was headed in by captain Jacob Jones for 2-2.

Tyler Donnelly then ran through 2 defenders and was fouled 25 yards out. Up stepped Oli Gray, who rifled a free kick into the right hand side of the net.

The lively Coleman, on leave from the Army, then picked up the ball 30 yards left of centre, took a look up and curled an effort over and around the keeper for 4-2.

It became 5-2 when Lewis Evans swung in a corner which was met by a towering Coleman header for his second.

Coleman completed his hat-trick from left wing-back when he charged down the flank and scored from about 35 yards, catching the keeper out.

Luke Bradshaw hit the seventh after he was fouled in the box. He stepped up and continued his 100% penalty record.

The Alex rallied well as the Wanderers let the foot off the gas and the game ended 7-5,

Goals from Steve Collins (2) and Joe Jones made it a lot closer than it looked like ending at one stage.

Deserved victory at last for Wanderers after draws this season at Millbank and Y Clwb, plus a narrow loss to Six Bells seven days earlier.

A ruthless performance from the Oak sent them top of the Rhyl and District Sunday League.

Adam Cassidy netted twice for the home side and eight other players chipped in with one apiece – Marcus Scott, Corey Hughes, Matty Rees, Ethan Taylor, Josh Brown, Sam Stopforth, Callum Murphy and Daniel Williams.

There was also an own goal provided by the Comrades, who were well below par.

Oak will certainly be among the title contenders in 2022. This was their sixth win in seven outings.
