Three members of North Wales Road Runners won their respective age categories at the Conwy Parkrun last Saturday, and one junior even celebrated a massive new personal best time, whilst three other athletes claimed podium placings elsewhere as tourists.

With many club members opting to rest prior to the Welsh 5k championships and Anglesey Trail events on the Sunday, or trying to take it easy within the parkrun, certain times and performances were therefore restricted.

Simon Cole (GOG Triathlon) was the first athlete home again in this 5k challenge in 16 minutes 41 seconds, with Mark Jessett from NWRRC 2nd overall in 18.09, and Alun Brown 3rd with a new PB 18.13. The event attracted 255 runners with clubs and individuals from across the UK again represented.

Gethin Wyn Jones

Jessett won his MV35-39 age cat, and led the club team home, with Gethin Wyn Jones 16th and 3rd MV35-39 in 21.09. Steve Mason was also 3rd in his MV45-49 cat and finished 19th overall in 21.35 and ran around the puddle-filled course with Martin Green, who used the event as part of his training schedule, with the pair finishing together and sharing the same time.

Ever-smiling Carla Green

Carla Green was the 2nd female finisher but won her VW45-49 age cat in 39th place in 23.16 and jogged around with Simon Nixon (Prestatyn). Daniel Owens, running with his guide Andy Brazier (GOG Triathlon), also enjoyed a steady performance in 41st place in 23.17.

Steve Mason

Rob Fryer continued his fine form to win his MV65-69 cat in 59th place overall in 24.14, with fellow master vet Don Hale struggling with a recurrence of his calf injury finishing 90th and 2nd MV65-69 cat in 26.21, whilst another super-vet Ian Turner celebrated a good run in 122nd spot in 28.56.

Jamie Tharme was another athlete who took it steady, and he was just three-seconds behind Ian in 124th place in 28.59.

Dave Spofforth and son Ben

Dave Spofforth highlighted an improving father and son combination and running with his young son Ben, the youngster knocked a massive three-minutes plus off his previous best time to finish in 133rd place in 29.32, whilst Rachel Morris continued her positive progress in 191st place in 33.13.
