Llangefni Town Ladies manager Dan Gregg rates CPD Y Rhyl 1879 as “streets ahead” of anyone else his team has played so far.
Newcomers Cefni already have three wins under their belt in the North Wales Women’s League, but have also suffered some heavy defeats against more experienced sides as part of the learning process.
The Anglesey side were bamboozled 12-0 by Rhyl on Sunday, but Gregg saw many positives in the game, including the chance to assess just how good some opponents can be in this tier 3 league.
Sunday brought the second of tough back-to-back games for Cefni. After a good showing in a 3-0 loss to Bangor 1876 the previous weekend, Rhyl was just a step to much for the league’s newbies.
The outstanding player of the match Rebecca Bannister opened the scoring for Rhyl after eight minutes then Candice Nellist soon made it 2-0.
Another from Nellist, one for Tegan Crockett and a brace for the on-fire Emily Bentley took it to 6-0 at the break.
Crockett scored her second straight after the turnaround, followed by goals from Nellist, Rachael Nattrass, Niomi Taylor and Lauren Jones.
Gregg said: “When this Rhyl team clicks like they did today they are streets ahead of anyone we’ve played in the league so far.
“They’ve had small and big wins during the season but it’s (the results) have all been down to who is available. But when they are at full strength like today it’s frightening!. I thought Rebecca Bannister was incredible, never missed a pass or a tackle for 90 minutes, she’s probably still going now on the bus home.
“A big lesson for myself and the team today, lots to improve on, heads up, rest up and we learn.”
