North Wales Women’s Football League reports – November 14

Bangor 1876 2 Northop Hall 1

Two goals in the opening 12 minutes proved enough to deliver leaders 1876 a sixth win in seven starts.

Yet again the match was delayed over the late arrival of the referee, something which is happening far too often in the league this season.

A minute’s silence to mark Remembrance Sunday was impeccably observed.

The home side began the game well, creating chances and putting a lot of pressure on the Northop Hall goal.

These early attacks paid off when Jordan Roberts beat the offside trap to neatly finish into the bottom left-hand corner.

1876 stayed on top and a nice finish from Ceri Lois soon made it 2-0.

This was Ceri’s last game before her operation this week. Everyone wishes her well and a speedy recovery.

After falling two behind, the Hall rallied and forced Becca Elliott into some good stops.

Half time arrived with a 2-0 scoreline, but the visitors were far from out of it.

The Flintshire travellers were fired up at the start of the second half and within five minutes they had pulled a goal back via Lauren Chambers from a corner.

It was game on now and 1876 had to work hard to keep their slender lead.

The hosts then welcomed back substitute Ffion Mair Roberts after injury and the striker made a instant impact, racing through to be denied by some unbelievable goalkeeping from Hall’s Bethan Thomas.

Both teams pushed till the end and this made for a fantastic finish, but there were no further goals.

While 1876 got the win nothing can be taken away from Northop Hall, who played with true grit and determination and really made the hosts work for the result.

Lisa Thomas was player of the match for 1876, Bethan Thomas being the visitors’ stand-out performer.

Trearddur Bay 1 NFA 10

Emily Jones and Amy Webster both netted hat-tricks in a convincing away win for NFA.

It was a long trip to Anglesey for the Rhyl side, but worth it for the 10 goals and three points.

The visitors played some wonderful football and scored some quality goals. Fantastic team goals led to a 7-0 advantage before Trearddur hit back through Danielle Hesketh just before half time.

In the second half, NFA were just as dominant but could not convert as many chances.

Added to Jones‘ and player of the match Webster’s trebles were a Stella Windsor double, with Georgia Spibey and Sade Benjamin also on target.

Llangefni Town 0 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 12

Rhyl rattled up a dynamic dozen at the expense of a Llangefni side which nonetheless competed well and displayed plenty of the battling spirit which has become their trademark.

Candice Nellist led the way for the winners with a hat-trick.

Tegan Crockett, Rachael Nattrass and Emily Bentley all scored twice, substitute Lauren Jones, normally a goalkeeper, also netting one, as did Niomi Taylor and Becca Bannister.

Rhyl netted six goals in each half. Hannah Owen was player of the match for Llangefni.

Amlwch Town 6 Holywell Town 0

Tesni Hughes was another hat-trick star on a day where the goals flowed in the North Wales League.

The 18-year-old striker netted on 14, 24 and 60 minutes to continue her fine progress with the team.

Shannon Thomas also found the net twice, after 25 and 32 minutes and Jo Bramwell headed home from a corner.

Welshpool Town 3 Llanystumdwy 2

Every one of the 10 teams in the league has now won at least a point this season.

Before Sunday, Welshpool had lost all five matches, but they ended the sequence with a 3-2 triumph over Llanystumdwy.

Bethan Jones scored twice in the first half for the hosts before Ellie Davies added another just before the break.

Llan fought back well in the second half, late goals from Sarah O’Hara and Shona O’Brien giving them hope, but it was not quite enough.
