North Wales teams have been handed extremely tough draws in the last 16 of the Genero Adran Trophy.
Following group stages which strangely featured just three matches apiece (instead of the usual home and away format) Connah’s Quay Nomads, Pwllheli, Llandudno and Wrexham have progressed to the next round.
The four North Wales qualifiers finished first and second respectively in their groups (Nomads and Pwllheli group winners, Wrexham and Llandudno runners-up).
Amazingly, the draw has been seeded – the same as happened in the men’s Welsh Cup second round. Seemingly giving the higher ranked sides a big chance of going through.
Of the four northern teams to progress, Nomads appear to have the best chance of advancing after landing an away tie at The New Saints of the Cymru Premier, a team they defeated in pre-season.
Llandudno have landed an ultra-tough visit to Cardiff Met University, Wrexham will more than have their work cut out at home to Premier leaders Swansea City and Pwllheli will welcome Cardiff City FC Women to The Rec.
Swansea, Cardiff City and Cardiff Met occupy the top three places in the Genero Adran Premier.
Ties will take place on December 19 – very close to Christmas which will surely create problems with player availability and travelling. Another FAW own goal – give them all a big hand.
