While Llangefni emerged victorious in the Halloween Battle of Anglesey both teams had no reason whatsoever to hide behind masks at the final whistle.

Played in dreadful conditions with heavy wind and rain on the Plas Arthur 3G, the island rivals can take credit that the game was the only one to go ahead in the league and that the determination and spirit shown will bode well for both in the seasons to come.

Trearddur Bay started with the wind and piled the pressure on Cefni for most of the first half, a couple of free kicks from Gail Paterson-Manning sailing narrowly wide.

Llangefni knew how important it was to see the half out without conceding and dug deep.

Then the returning Tash Jones played a delightful through ball to Jen Cox who rounded the keeper to give the hosts a 1-0 lead with the wind to come in the second half.

Llangefni started well in the second half and made it 2-0, this time Sian Elin providing Cox, who scored her second of the day and 5th of the season.

Bay fought on bravely and started to edge the battles in the middle of the park until a nasty injury to Hannah Smith halted play for 15-20 minutes. Smith up until that point had been Trearddur’s best player. Llangefni Ladies wish her all the best.

Llinos Hughes then tried a shot from distance which caught the wind and curled into the top corner to make it 3-0 before her defensive partner, Megan Summers-Roberts, added a fourth with a similar effort from halfway which bounced in over the goalkeeper.

Both chalked up their first goals for the club and played a key role in keeping a clean sheet.

Manager Dan Gregg said: “Both teams can take heart from today’s game and the fact they were both brave enough to play it, I thought we weathered the pressure well in the first half and we knew if we could go in to half time without conceding we’d have a good chance in the second half. Focus now goes to Bangor next week and I wish T-Bay’s Hannah Smith all the best.”

Report: Trearddur Bay

Today saw us play fellow islanders Llangefni Town in the league.

We played with the strong wind behind us in the first period. Although we had the majority of possession we created very little in terms of clear chances.

Llangefni went one nil up when there was a mix up in our defence and Jen Cox took the ball around the goalkeeper to finish well.

Half time 1-0

Second half kicked off with us now facing the strong wind and within 5 minutes Llangefni were 2-0 up when a cross from the right sailed over Georgia Magee and into the net.

Unfortunately we lost Hannah Smith with a bad injury that saw the game stopped for 25 minutes.

We were playing better against the wind than with it and had the ball bouncing around in the Cefni penalty area but just couldn’t get a clear shot off.

Cefni then took a 3-nil lead when a long range effort from Llinos Hughes bounced at the edge of the area over our keeper’s head and into the empty net.

Shortly after it was 4 nil when a good distance shot from Megan Summers–Roberts found the net in a similar fashion to the previous goal.

Well done to Llangefni Town who wanted it more than us today.

We all wish Hannah a speedy recovery.
