Two exciting new signings have been announced in North Wales women’s football over the past couple of days – and there are more on the way!
Class act Catrin Wyn Thomas has signed for Genero Adran North club Bethel, while striker Niomi Taylor is now a CPD Y Rhyl 1879 player.
Connah’s Quay Nomads and Llangefni Town also report they have fresh faces on the way.
Catrin, 34, is the sister of Caernarfon Town great Darren Thomas, but is a tremendous player in her own right.
When Caernarfon won the North Wales Women’s League in 2016-17, Catrin was top scorer with 38 goals from less than half that number of games.
She was also a member of the Llandudno side which played in the Welsh Premier and reached the 2015-16 Welsh Cup final, in which Catrin scored in a 5-2 loss against Cardiff City FC Women.
Catrin later rejoined Caernarfon, then played for Mountain Rangers in the curtailed 2019-20 season. She then had a spell with Llandudno before returning to the Llamas.
The mother-of-two made her Bethel debut in Sunday’s epic Welsh Cup victory over Connah’s Quay Nomads.
A gifted player, strong in the air and skilful on the ball, Catrin’s experience will only benefit Ben Bolton’s belles.
Niomi Taylor is a tall, skilful front player who has starred in the past for Kinmel Bay and Rhyl, where she featured in the 2019-20 season.
It is with the Bay where she has experienced most success as a very consistent goalscorer.
Memorable performances include notching a hat-trick in a famous Welsh Cup tie in the 2018-19 season which Kinmel lost 6-5 to Caernarfon Town.
Niomi, 23, is a great addition to an already strong Rhyl squad which looks well capable of challenging for the North Wales Women’s League title.
