NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE – OCTOBER 10

Llanystumdwy 2 (Ellie Williams, Hannah Wellings)
NFA 5 (Emily Jones 2, Amy Webster, Rachel Lloyd, Stella Windsor)

Emily Jones scored twice in an outstanding display for NFA in their North Wales Women’s League victory at Llanystumdwy on Sunday.

However, the home side also produced plenty of positives in a good contest at Dwyfor Park.

Llan fought back from two-down to be level at 2-2 and it needed three late goals from the Rhyl-based visitors to clinch the points.

The away side started off brightly and created chances but did not convert one until in the 12th minute when Amy Webster latched on to a through ball and fired past keeper Sara Lacey at her near post.

Three minutes later, a ball played through found Rachel Lloyd on the right and she netted with a delightful chip.

Llanystumdwy fought back brilliantly. In the 32nd minute Ellie Williams scored with a shot from close range after Yasmin Mills had parried the previous effort.

Five minutes later Hana Wellings worked her way past two defenders to score with a very tidy finish.

Half time 2-2 and all to play for.

Llan kept the effort up in the second half but with a lack of games being played and tiredness kicking in, NFA steadlily took over.

Emily Jones made it 3-2 in the 73rd minute, then not long after Stella Windsor took the ball through the Llanystumdwy defence and drove in her team’s fourth goal.

In the 81st minute Emily Jones ran through the defence and slotted in to complete her double.

NFA coach Andy Lloyd said: “We really upped our game in the second half, but we need to be playing like that from the start.”

Llan’s player of the match was Hana Wellings, who played absolutely brilliantly for the 90 minutes, causing NFA problems throughout in the centre of midfield.
