Happy birthday to Llandudno FC twins Sarah and Claire Colville

Yes I know this is an old photo but it is the only one I could find with Sarah and Claire together. Sarah is back row furthest left and Claire front row one from the right

North Wales football’s most well-known twin sisters celebrate their birthday today.

Sarah Colville and Claire Colville were born on October 2, 1978. Sarah is the eldest by 10 minutes,

The pair began playing football well into their adult years but both soon discovered they had a talent for the game.

Sarah in her playing days

Sarah was a prolific goalscorer for Llandudno Junction before her career was cut short after she broke her tibia, fibula and damaged her ankle and foot.

She has had many operations since and had to stop playing football altogether some years ago.

However, Sarah turned her hand to coaching and management with great success.

She led the team first known as Llandudno Junction and then later Llandudno through every season of the Welsh Premier Women’s League after it went fully national in 2012-13 up to when the club had to resign in 2019-20, after years of travelling and struggling with player commitment took its toll.

Sarah is now spearheading Llandudno’s return to competitive football in the tier 2 Genero Adran North League.

Unlike her sister, who specialised in attack, Claire is a long-established defender.

Playing anywhere across the defence, the younger Colville has a great football brain, is solid in the tackle and uses the ball well.

Her own career has been blighted by injury in recent times, but she has featured on the substitutes bench in the early stages of this season and hopes to get some action under her belt soon.

Claire has captained the team countless times and is among Llandudno’s highest appearance-makers in the Welsh Premier.

She was a key part of the Tudno side which reached the 2015-16 Welsh Cup final, where they lost 5-2 to Cardiff City FC Women.

Claire is a great motivator, organises the defence well and is a tremendous character to have in the dressing room.

Basically the Colville sisters ARE Llandudno Ladies FC. Nothing would be the same without them.

Happy birthday both.
