Bangor 1876 make it 11 wins on the bounce – but Llanberis give them good battle

Bangor 1876 3 (Davies, Barry, C Jones)
Llanberis 0

Report: Dr Jonathan Ervine

An 11th straight win in all competitions for 1876 on Friday evening put them temporarily top of the North Wales Coast West Premier Division on goal difference.

However, wins for Pwllheli and Nefyn United on Saturday edged them ahead of Bangor by three points, albeit the Llyn pair have played more games.

Three goals under the floodlights at Treborth secured a seventh league victory on the bounce for the fan-owned hosts.

The first goal arrived shortly after the quarter-hour mark Cameron Barry played in a cross from the left wing. It was controlled at the back post by top-scorer Les Davies, who then unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that visiting goalkeeper Ben Jones got a hand to but couldn’t keep out.

Shortly afterwards, Jamie Petrie thought he had added a second but his effort was disallowed as he was adjudged offside.

Llanberis made a determined start to the second period and around the hour there were chances at both ends.

Barry stung the palms of the visiting keeper with a powerful shot before the Darans went close to an equaliser when a ball from the left eluded the Bangor defence but no-one from the visiting side could turn it home.

As the midpoint approached, Bangor doubled their lead. Chris Jones played the ball into the box to Davies, who held it up before playing it into the path of on-rushing midfielder Barry, who scored with a composed finish.

Chris Jones made it three when he found the net with a powerful half-volley.

Llanberis didn’t lose heart and continued to press. With 15 minutes left Tomos Saynor fired off a powerful effort from the edge of the penalty area that rattled the crossbar.
