North Wales Coast Reserve League: Good wins for Pen Phoenix, Nefyn, Pwllheli and Llanrug

NORTH WALES COAST RESERVE LEAGUE – REPORTS AUG 20-22

Bontnewydd Reserves 0
Penmaenmawr Phoenix Reserves 1 (Benjamin pen 52)

Harry Benjamin’s second-half penalty was enough to secure another three points for Penmaenmawr.

Phoenix started strongly, Ryan Stuart and Benjamin causing Bont all sorts of problems in the opening 10 minutes linking up with Ben Hughes in midfield.

Hughes forced a wonderful save from Ethan Pritchard in the home goal after 12 minutes.

Bontnewydd grew into the game but missed a good chance, then in the 30th minute when Hughes was fouled in the box, the visitors were awarded a penalty.

Hughes stepped up only to fire over the bar.

Bontnewydd kicked on and created a couple more chances before the break, Mike Williams in Pen’s goal producing a couple of top class saves.

At the start of the second half, Aidan Williams was causing Bont headaches down the left with some powerful runs.

The home defence were struggling to handle him and he got his reward in the 54th minute when he was brought down in the area to earn a penalty.

This time Benjamin took it and made no mistake, slotting calmly into the corner.

Bontnewydd pushed for an equaliser but the defence of Brandon Evans, Scott Hall, captain Darren Hughes and Mathew Roberts rose to the challenge and secured their second clean sheet in a row.
