North East Wales Football League – leaders Chirk Town and Penyffordd pushed hard

NORTH EAST WALES FOOTBALL LEAGUE – ROUND-UPS AUGUST 21, 2021

TIER 4: PREMIER DIVISION

Chirk Town kept their winning habit going but had to survive a late fightback from visitors Coedpoeth United before celebrating a 4-3 victory.

The Premier Division leaders maintained a 100 percent home record thanks to goals from Nicky Williams (2), Caleb Davies and James Williams.

Coedpoeth never gave in, though. Trailing 4-1 at one stage, Iwan Evans the scorer, a late double from David Hughes ran them close.

Bashed 6-0 at Chirk Town the previous weekend, Greenfield bounced back superbly to win 9-0 at Mynydd Isa Spartans.

Aaron Boyle and Connor Hughes both struck twice for the visitors, Dean Hyland (pen), Jack Pennington, Lewis Williams, Jacob Jones and Ryan Jones one each.

Cefn Mawr Rangers edged a 2-1 verdict at Hawarden Rangers, Christopher Roberts and Ben Duffy striking for the visitors, Ellis Jones replying.

TIER 5: CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION

Penyffordd Lions stretched their perfect record to seven straight wins but faced their hardest test of the season in beating Railway Rovers 3-2.

Marcus Davies, Matty Holmes and Rob Salisbury netted for the hosts, for whom Gareth Higgins missed an 83rd minute penalty, Jordan Valentine and Maksymilian Kulbida replying for the battling visitors.

Connah’s Quay Town eked out a 2-1 result at AFC Bagillt, Sean Williams and Tommy Leonard the away scorers, Jake Murphy having put the hosts ahead.

Ruabon Rovers hit seven without reply at Bellevue, Lee Price (3, 1 pen), Owen Bather, Owen Mazzarella, Shaun Valentine and a Robert Fay own goal making up the rout.

Caerwys whipped FC United of Wrexham 9-3.

Modestas Krukonis (3), Lewis Harrison (pen), Shae Harding, Callum Pritchard, Josh Roberts, Jack Swinnerton and a Samuel Postle own goal producing the hosts’ haul, Postle also scoring in the right net for the visitors whose other marksmen were Malcolm Wareham and Ashley Dawson.

Lewis Evison, Stephen Berry and Lewis Evans’ last-gasp penalty winner earned Borras Park Albion the points in a 3-2 outcome at CPD Sychdyn, Kieran Jones with both for the home team.

Nathan Mugford and Robert Reynolds both pocketed hat-tricks in Johnstown YFC’s 8-1 tanning of Brymbo Lodge, whose sole scorer was Ethan Snell. Joshua Smith and Dwayne Jones also hit the net for the winners.

RESERVE DIVISION

Luis Rowland was a five-goal star and Aaron North added a treble in Hawarden Rangers‘ 8-1 away thumping of Coedpoeth United, Keanu Bruton with the only home response.

William Mullock (2) and Teddy Edwards led Llay Welfare thirds to a 3-1 success over Ruthin Town Development, Peter Jones putting the visitors on the scoreboard.

Matthew Bithell (2), Ben White (2), Sean Price and Sean Humphreys shared the riches as FC Queen’s Park outscored Cefn Mawr Rangers 6-3, Matthew Jones (2) and Luke Price for the losing side.

Adam Woosey (2), Jay Wiles and Henri Jones sealed Mynydd Isa Spartans a 4-1 result at Lex XI, who hit back through Joel Edwards.
