LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTHERN REPORTS – AUGUST 21

ARDAL NORTH EAST

Kerry 0
Corwen 5 (Cordiner 20 & 25, Billington 40, Williams 71, Own Goal 76)
Report: Gavin Billington (Corwen FC)

Owen Cordiner was a two-goal star for a Corwen side which went joint top of Ardal North East after making it four wins in five starts.

Their latest victims were struggling Kerry, nicknamed The Lambs, who play at Dolforgan Park, Powys.

The home side ought to have taken the lead in the fourth minute when Ethan Holloway saw off the challenge of one defender and despite being clipped by a second he stayed on his feet and unleashed a shot beyond stranded Corwen keeper James Mallon, but saw his effort hit the far post.

Despite looking dangerous early on from set-pieces none of Kerry’s attempts bore fruit.

In the 17th minute, Cordiner made the breakthrough when he was able to get through on goal, round keeper Ryan Andrew and slot the ball into an unguarded net.

Two minutes later Cordiner doubled his and Corwen’s tally.

He went in search of the hat-trick as he was bearing down on the Kerry goal, but sent his shot wide under pressure from Daryl McWatt.

Kel Davies then missed a couple of opportunities for the visitors.

The visitors were three goals to the good in the 37th minute when Scott Evans played a corner into the box, where Ryan Billington was able to head home.

Half-time 3-0

Corwen remained a threat after the break and in the 61st minute Scott Evans blasted a shot at goal, which brought a great fingertip save out of Andrew.

With 20 minutes left, visiting sub Tom Williams beat the offside trap to get one-on-one with Andrew, who he rounded and made no mistake, placing the ball into the back of an empty net.

Five minutes later, Cordiner played the ball down the wing before crossing it into the six-yard box, where an unfortunate Kerry player slid in to try and clear, but could only divert it into the back of his own net.

Cordiner had one final opportunity to complete his hat-trick as he got on to the end of a Williams cross, but the ball got stuck under his feet and he was unable to get a shot away.
