Trearddur Bay Ladies expected a tough test when CPD Y Rhyl 1879 Women visited Lon Isallt last Sunday – and so it proved.

The final score was 8-1 to Rhyl, but there were plenty of things to be pleased about from a Bay point of view.

After conceding an early penalty, which the visitors converted, Trearddur dug deep,  started to get hold of the ball and keep some position.

They created a couple of decent chances, but were unable to convert.

Rhyl were also moving the ball around well but proved far more clinical up front and went 2-0 up before making it three from another penalty.

Bay striker Gail Paterson-Manning then pulled a goal back with a good finish from distance.

The away side were still in command, though, and scored again to make it 4-1 at half time.

Bay started the second half better than the first, but were unable to prevent Rhyl netting their fifth.

The hosts then conceded a third penalty, but this time it was brilliantly saved by Lia Huws, who then bravely also kept out the follow up shot from point blank range.

However, Rhyl did add another three goals to complete a comfortable win.

The experienced Rhyl side were very impressive and should make quite an impact in the North Wales Women’s League this season.

Natalie Harrison scored a hat-trick, Ceri Purvis and Rebecca Bannister added a double apiece and left-back Rosie O’Brien also made the scoresheet.

Trearddur Bay manager Chris Davies said: “Although the score isn’t great, we took a lot from the game, one being the debut of full back Caitlin Howell-Williams who won our player of the match. Also both our GK’s were outstanding.

“Thanks to Rhyl for coming over for the game and we wish you luck for the season (except when your playing us 😜).”
