The Millbank FC announce big Sunday date

Meet The Millbank

Rhyl and District Sunday League side The Millbank have a massive test coming up this weekend.

The ever-improving Milly will welcome the all-conquering three-time quadruple winners FC Mally of Llandudno Junction to their Rhyl base on Sunday.

Formed just before the start of the 2020 pandemic, The Millbank have been progressing nicely despite the inevitable frustrations of inactivity, facing a number of good quality opponents in friendlies.

On June 30, they locked horns with NFA of the Saturday North Wales Coast West League Division One, losing 4-3 in a close contest with goals from Joel Poh, Alex Hall and Simon Roberts.

Three days earlier, the Milly fared much better in a 5-0 win against fellow Sunday side Bar Bow.

Mattie Edge scored first direct from a viciously-whipped corner before the same player made it 2-0 with a 25-yard special.

Bar Bow rallied but the Milly stayed firm and went 3-0 up in the second half when Aidan Bell released Simon Roberts to run on and score.

Substitute Paul Ham headed in Matt Toole’s cross before Roberts put Ashley Randles away for number five.

Stay tuned to The Millbank’s Facebook page for a preview of this Sunday’s game against the mighty Mally.

In the meantime, here’s a taster of how the Rhyl side are building up the clash.

“It’s going to be a huge week for the lads, the full match preview will be available later on in the week however, just to get everyone warmed up and ready, we can announce we will be playing the league favourites for this year’s title FC Mally this coming Sunday in Rhyl.

“The tie will no doubt be competitive and both teams will be looking to lay a serious marker down for the upcoming season. With spectators now officially being welcomed back to grassroots, please invite all friends and family members down to what is guaranteed to be a great game of football.”

More details to follow.
