Morris triplets set for return to Denbigh Town

Three sisters who have played a big part in Denbigh Town women’s glorious past could be returning to figure in its future.

Triplets Charlotte, Emily and Lucy Morris have all decided to participate in Town’s pre-season.

Depending on how things work out, the 30-year-olds will make themselves available for the 2021-22 campaign, which will see Denbigh line up in the elite Tier 2 North league.

Town are one of eight teams which will compete in the new league, alongside Airbus, Bethel, Connah’s Quay Nomads, Llandudno, Llanfair United, Pwllheli and Wrexham.

All three Morris girls are best known for their roles in Denbigh Town women’s most successful-ever period in the last decade.

During a tremendous spell for John Clayton’s side, Denbigh lifted the Betty Pickering Cup (2013-14), won the North Wales Women’s League title (2014-15) and made it to the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup (2015-16).

Left-back Emily was a real stand-out performer in the league-winning campaign, securing herself the Player of the Year award.

On news of her return to Town, she said: “I’m just seeing how it goes for now, have a few pre-season friendlies and see what I think. I’ve got a recurring shoulder injury as well so that’s holding me back a bit.

“With us being able to use the main pitch now at Denbigh and with it being improved, that was a factor in me going back too. I love that pitch.”

Charlotte, a right-back who can play further forward, is contemplating a comeback following a long lay-off due to a heart operation.

“I’ve been considering returning to football for quite a while but because of my heart condition, I’ve been worried my fitness won’t be good enough to compete,” she said.

“I wasn’t considering playing this season but we’d received a few messages asking if we’d be interested in signing for Denbigh so I had a think about it and decided I’d get back out there and see how it goes.”

Lucy is a right-footed forward who can play on either wing, and was second-top scorer in 2014-15, with only Mari Edwards ahead of her.

In 2013-14, Lucy notched a fantastic and memorable hat-trick for Denbigh in a 6-0 Betty Pickering Cup quarter-final caning of Prestatyn, completing her treble with a 25-yard special after carrying the ball from the right-back position.

She and Emily last played for Denbigh in the 2019-20 season.

Lucy said: “We’ve not made our minds up completely yet (about playing). We’re waiting to play a few pre-season games to see what the team’s like.”
