Ellen Sharps scored the only goal as Northop Hall pipped Wrexham in a close-fought pre-season friendly at Rowley’s Drive, Shotton.
It was an excellent game with both teams fully committed and the Dragons probably edging possession in the first half without really troubling the Hall goal due to some excellent defending from the home side.
Lauren Reese was a constant threat for the visitors, her low free-kick blocked by a defender but, from the rebound, she skipped past an oncoming opponent and fizzed a powerful effort just wide of the keeper’s right post.
Hall went 1-0 up on 44 minutes. A free kick just inside the Wrexham half taken by Abbie Holland caused confusion in the box with Sharps pouncing on the loose ball and firing into the roof of the net.
This gave the hosts the advantage going into the second half and they went onto create a good few chances and have a lot more of the ball.
Wrexham keeper Kat Jones made a great save from a Debra Wright drive, tipping the ball round the post and out for a corner on the hour.
The game was end-to-end for the next 10 minutes before Northop finished the game on top but were unable to add any further goals
A totally enjoyable game to watch and great advert for women’s football.
Reformed Llangefni Town Ladies took on a highly experienced and top quality Llandudno side in the Anglesey team’s first home game in 15 years today.
Although Tudno, a team packed with former Welsh Premier players and others who have hit high levels in the North Wales League, won comfortably, Cefni never stopped trying.
Llangefni manager Bryn Griffith said: “We lost to a very good Llandudno side that will give anyone a game.
“My girls had a decent spell in the second half where for 20 minutes we passed the ball well and created 1 or 2 chances. Llinos Hughes and Jade Cook yet again impressed.”
